• Includes more than 655,000 Catholics, who attend 139 parishes and nine missions in the District of Columbia and the five surrounding Maryland counties of St. Mary’s, Charles, Calvert, Prince George’s and Montgomery

• Has about 26,000 students attending 93 Catholic elementary and high schools and early learning centers, and nearly 24,000 attending parish religious education and youth ministry programs

•  Since the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program began in 1982, 34 Catholic elementary or high schools have been named as National Blue Ribbon Schools, and nine of those schools have received the honor twice

• Awarded $6.1 million in tuition assistance for the 2018-19 school year, a more than seven-fold increase since 2007

• Includes three Catholic universities – The Catholic University of America, Georgetown University and Trinity Washington University

• Also includes two seminaries sponsored by archdiocese – Saint John Paul II Seminary in Washington and Redemptoris Mater Mission Seminary in Hyattsville

• Catholic Charities of the archdiocese, the region’s largest non-governmental social service provider, served more than 142,000 people last year in 58 programs

• Masses are celebrated in more than 20 different languages, including American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, French-Creole, German, Italian, Korean, Latin, Nigerian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog (for people from the Philippines) and in Vietnamese.

•  Forty sites offer Masses in Spanish, serving the archdiocese’s estimated 230,000 Hispanic Catholics. The Archdiocese of Washington also includes an estimated 66,000 African American, African and Caribbean Catholics, and 34,000 Catholics from Asia.

• Providence Health System and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring and Holy Cross Germantown Hospital provide millions of dollars of charitable care

• The Archdiocese of Washington welcomed visits by Pope John Paul II in 1979, Pope Benedict XVI in 2008 and Pope Francis in 2015
